(IMAESCII516) Weekly Forum Reflection 4: Should you allow your fellow classmates to grade you?
Grading is also learning. I agree that fellow learners should be treated equally as part of the learning ecosystem. When peer assessments are done properly, it strengthens the diffusion of knowledge that benefits everyone.
It can be done in a very supportive environment. However, it
needs to be critical, fair, and objective. An article I read, 'Students as
Partners' (Cook-Sather and Luz, 2015) described how the relationship between
teachers and students and among fellow students is being reimagined. As everyone
is a stakeholder to one’s learning, learning and assessments can be designed
without causing intimidation or fear to the student. It must be built on a
trustworthy relationship. Moreover, the adult educator still needs to validate
the assessment given by the peer learner and give the space to articulate and
justify it.
Have you experienced being graded your peers for your work?
